iPhone video displayed on portable DVD player

Here's the completed solution to the pain we experienced when swapping DVDs on our road trip.

We were successfully able to get video from my iPhone displayed on our portable DVD player that was strapped in between the front seats.

I bought the Apple Composite A/V Cable, 1 audio to stereo mini-jack converter for the audio and a audio to mono mini-jack converter for the video. These were able to plug directly into the mini-jack inputs on our portable DVD player. My car also has an axillary input on for the stereo, so we were able to both pump audio into the DVD player as well as into the car sound system using the headphone jack on the iPhone.

The advantage: Play video after video without having to unbuckle, turn around, bend over backwards and swap out DVDs. Not having to carry transport DVDs.

The challenge: I was able to have 8 feature length movies on my 16GB iPhone. But with 3 kids, it wasn't necessarily enough variety to meet the requests of all 3 kids.

The downside: Alex wasn't able to play with the maps on the iPhone without interrupting the video, but the car has navigation.

We're back from Disney World!

Doing some catch up blogging...

Stephen and Jenny drove in on the 27th with their kids, and were promptly greeted by another blizzard here in Denver. We spent the morning at Denver's Museum of Nature and Science, by the time we were done there at 11, it was snowing.

Plans to go up to the mountains didn't work out, but the kids suited up anyway to go sledding in the park.

Paola and I went to Hong Kong last week...

Paola and I went to Hong Kong last week to visit my ailing grandmother. We've been meaning to bring Paola to HK for sometime now, but it just never seemed to be the right time. However, with my grandmother's declining health and my parents being there at the same time, we figured that sooner was better than later...

It was a great trip. Paola had a great time meeting her great grandmother (TiPo) and grand aunts & uncles, aunts & uncles & cousins. She did really well relating and talking with TiPo, repeating things we'd tell her to day in Cantonese.

I know this is a short post. I'll try to post more later. Many thanks to Mom and Dad for working out the logistics for us to go. Thanks to Aunt Emily who is doing an incredible amount of work seflessly taking care of my grandmother and for hosting us. Thanks to all our Uncles and Aunts and cousins who hosted us at meals and outings (I'm glad you guys read our blog!). We had an amazing time with you.

Mom & Dad's 40th Anniversary

It's been a while since our last post, we've been having some computer trouble lately and have also been crazy busy.

Last weekend we took a whirlwind trip and all flew down to Austin to surprise my parents for their 40th Anniversary. They were going to be in Austin at Stephen & Jenny's house, celebrating Kara & Kelsie's birthdays as well as my parent's anniversary.

So we planned to fly in around midnight, Stephen had his friend Dave call him for help with something, then came to pick us up. When he got home, he said that he had found my parents present and opened the front door and there we were!

We had a great visit with everyone. We love being able to spend time with family and the kids love being able to spend time with their cousins.

Congratulations to Mom and Dad  for 40 years of marriage! That's incredible! Thank you guys for your great example of love and stick-to-itness with marriage. You are a great example for us, we love you very much!
